The Biodiversity Monitoring Week (BioMonWeek) is the European conference bringing monitoring experts together for discussions on transnational cooperation and coordination across scales. This inaugural edition marks a launch guided by a vision to deliver an impactful biannual format. The event aims to bring together science, policy and business communities to exchange monitoring knowledge, build networks and drive tangible societal impact to help reverse the global biodiversity crisis. The International Boreal Forest Research Association (IBFRA) is hosting a webinar exploring the links between biodiversity in boreal forests and the economic implications of conservation and management. The session will feature two invited presentations: one examining how biodiversity‑enhancing management in private forests can influence public welfare, and another assessing the impact of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 on the wood‑based bioeconomy. This event is highly relevant to ongoing discussions on forest conservation, sustainable management, and the role of biodiversity in shaping future forest policy. WEBINAR: Do Europe’s forests suffice?
Forests remain important carbon sinks, but their capacity is slowing. At the same time, sustainably harvested wood can support climate goals by storing carbon and replacing more carbon-intensive materials. Building on the findings of the State of Europe’s Forests 2025 report (SoEF 2025), this webinar will explore the status and trends of forest resources and carbon sequestration and discuss how these topics can be managed and balanced. Do Europe’s forests suffice? Leaders of the Confederation of European Forest Owners, the Confederation of European Paper Industries and the European Commission will present different perspectives. Dr. Kari Korhonen, Research Manager at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) and Board Chair of the European National Forest Inventory Network (ENFIN Association), will introduce the topic and moderate the webinar.
