Work Package 1 is led by the Environmental Social Science Research Group and sets the foundation for the SafeNet project by working closely with people who are directly involved in or affected by forest management. This includes forest managers, policymakers, researchers, and local communities across Europe.
The team will use collaborative Living Labs to explore what helps or hinders forest conservation and climate adaptation. Together with stakeholders, they will create future scenarios for how forests might be used and managed under different climate conditions. The work will also result in practical policy recommendations to support the protection of Europe’s primary and old-growth forests.
This approach ensures that the project’s research is grounded in real-life needs and leads to solutions that are both useful and widely supported.
