WILDCARD
WILDCARD is an EU‑funded Horizon Europe project assessing how natural rewilding and proforestation can contribute to Europe’s climate and biodiversity goals. By combining field data, remote sensing and socio‑economic analysis, the project evaluates how allowing forests to regenerate naturally and how rewilding abandoned agricultural land can enhance carbon sequestration and support wildlife. Working across Europe, WILDCARD identifies priority areas where these nature‑based solutions offer the greatest benefits, while also examining potential trade‑offs and local stakeholder perspectives. Its findings aim to inform policymakers on the role of rewilding in achieving net‑zero emissions and restoring resilient ecosystems.
