Set in the Bavarian Alps, this case study includes the Berchtesgaden National Park and surrounding forests. While some areas are close to their natural state, others have been shaped by centuries of timber use. The region is now dealing with climate related threats like wind damage and bark beetle outbreaks. SafeNet is collaborating with local partners – especially the national park and its advisory body, including diverse stakeholders – to explore different forest management approaches, and find ways to balance biodiversity, tourism, and timber production.
