In southern Spain, this case study explores a rich but fragmented landscape of Mediterranean forests, olive groves, and grasslands. Traditional land uses are declining, while conservation and intensive agriculture are expanding. The area faces serious challenges like forest fires, drought, and tree dieback.

SafeNet is working with local stakeholders – including forest management councils, local administration, conservation authorities, among others – to understand what drives these changes and to co-develop forest management strategies that protect biodiversity and support sustainable land use.
